Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is a quartz movement cuckoo clock?

Quartz movement just means 'battery powered'. Unlike mechanical 1-day and 8-day clocks, a quartz movement clock doesn't need to be manually wound and instead will always work until the battery runs out (on most models it takes roughly one year for the battery to drain although this can differ depending on the model). The quartz power runs the time-keeping as well as the cuckoo bird sound/movement. On some models it also powers the movement of dancers, music, water wheel, and other animations etc. We generally recommend quartz movement cuckoo clocks for people who might forget to wind their clocks or who want a hassle free option.

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

Old Qaks Quartz Haxnkraxler & Eagle cuckoo clock 37cm by August Schwer

The cuckoo clocks of the Old Oak Line are an entirely new interpretation of the classic cuckoo clock theme. The clocks present the cuckoo clock in a new physical form. All clocks are built by hand, the complete base of the clock and the massive oak tree trunk on the clock are hand-carved here in the Black Forest. Decoration and figurines are also handmade and handpainted. (All clocks / decoration variants are available as wall clock or as table / mantle clock). This is the table / mantle clock version of the clock. This clock has a battery operated quarz movement. This movement is made in Germany. The cuckoo call is at the full hour. The number of cuckoo calls indicated the hour. Automatic night shut-off between 9:00pm and 6:00am. The clock has a swinging pendulum, made of wood. The pendulum swings directly underneath the central clock.

Worried about your order arriving on time? Nine out of ten of our orders arrive within the estimated delivery time or even earlier. However sometimes there can be factors (such as availability and delivery location) that can affect the delivery time and lengthen it by a few days or even a week or two for some more complex models. In such cases we will keep you informed of the delay and work with the the manufacturer and courier throughout the process to make it as simple as possible for you to rest assured knowing your clock is on track to you. Many of our clocks are held in stock with our suppliers but, depending on the model/brand, some are built-to-order by one of our many manufacturers in Italy, Germany, Japan or Switzerland. We appreciate your patience in such cases and we will inform you of the tracking details as soon as your order is shipped from the manufacturer or supplier.
