DESIGN

Named the "Wirtschaft zum Kuckuck" and proudly built by August Schwer in the Black Forest, Germany, this cuckoo clock abounds with movement, colour and life. It depicts the scene of an old traditional chalet tavern from the 1920s with scenery of a busy Saturday evening. To the left side, the delivery man arrives on his horse-draw cart bringing supplies of new barrels of beer as waitress "Birgit" brings freshly poured stein for the patrons. The farmers meet at the drinking table to raise their steins and shout "Prost!" cheerfully as the youthful village dancers twirl to the music on the balcony and below. All the while the cuckoo bird watches from above while various animals dot the joyful scene. 

Upon the hour the whole scene animates as the:

This clock features a charming little cuckoo bird which animates from behind its little door and sings in the hour (a succession of cuckoo calls to correspond to the hour in the day). The sound can be turned off manually at night with a 'sound-off' lever.

This cuckoo clock has 8-day movement meaning each day the clock needs to be manually wound. The act of winding the cuckoo clock is very easy and only requires someone to gently pull on the chains so that the weights are drawn back to their utmost position. Gravity does the rest and ensures the clock can be kept perfectly on time as the weight lowers and slowly pulls the chain back through the mechanism.
