Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

A beautiful replica of the 'Railroad' chalet-style cuckoo clocks of 1885, this traditional cuckoo clock is intricately hand-crafted by renowned Black Forest cuckoo clock manufacturer 'Rombach & Haas' in Germany.

This clock features:

  • 1-day mechanical movement.
  • A life-like animated cuckoo bird which calls once every half hour and then calls the number of hours upon the hour.
  • A swinging pendulum.
  • Manual night-time sound shut-off.
  • 2-year warranty.

Made from wood sourced locally from the Black Forest, this traditional cuckoo clock which is fashioned after the 'railroad gatekeeper houses' of the 18th century, is hand-carved by a skilled craftsperson to create the intricate chalet-style housing, adorning leaves and other design flourishes. It is then lightly stained in a rich walnut varnish and the parts are assembled together with the clock-work mechanism, and adorned with a hard-carved quail bird (unique to this model). This is how the iconic Black Forest cuckoo clock is born.

Each traditional 'Rombach & Haas' cuckoo clock is powered with a mechanical extreme long-life rack strike movement. In addition, the models with music contain a music box from the market leader 'REUGE' of Switzerland. This such model 'cuckoo' calls every half-hour once and then the number of the hours every full hour.

A simply stunning cuckoo clock, just imagine how this clock could transform a wall or a room in your home or office and bring a deep sense of nostalgia and a touch of old-world class.

This traditional cuckoo clock runs on 1-day mechanical movement meaning that it needs to be wound roughly once every day. To do this, one simply pulls on the chains until the weights are lifted up closer to the clocks body. Gravity then does the rest, pulling the weights slowly down over the course of eight days and thus feeding the chains through the clock-work mechanism and powering the movement.

This antique replica cuckoo clock has a wooden cuckoo, wooden clock dial, wooden bird and wooden clock hands. The weights are made of cast iron and the chains of solid metal. The height refers only to the clock housing and not the entire length of the clock with chains and weights attached. This height usually comes to roughly 1.5 meters or less for 1-day movement clocks. All of our traditional and modern cuckoo clocks come with setup, installation and maintenance instructions in English and we also offer guidance in our FAQ or directly via email if you have any questions or concerns.

This traditional cuckoo clock comes complete with the Black Forest Clock Association's 'Certificate of Authenticity' (VdS) which verifies that the clock was made in the Black Forest Region, Germany and that all of it's parts, including it's internal clock mechanism, have been made with the highest of standard of manufacture. (See below).

We offer FREE SHIPPING to all mainland UK and European customers and all of our traditional and modern cuckoo clocks come complete with a 30-day 100% money back guarantee.
