Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

In Italian, cuculo means “cuckoo”, and felice means “happiness”. Wishing to share a happy moment with you, Lemnos named this minimalistic and stylish cuckoo clock the “CUCULO FELICE”. Designed as either a wall-clock or table-clock, made to make you feel right at home, the shape is reminiscent of a small house nestled in the forest, or maybe a rustic medieval church. The clock hand is in the motif of the cuckoo’s tail feather and the clock face itself is reminiscent of an elegant traditional brass clock.

Cuckoo bird chime upon the hour

Each hour the little cuckoo bird peeps out from its door and sings in the hour with a 'cuckoo' call corresponding with the time. The bird is animated and moves its wings each time it calls, leaning forward and opening its mouth to let out the sound. Beneath the sound of the cuckoo birds call, is the soft sound of a babbling brook, which adds that perfect feeling of being amidst the natural world. This cuckoo clock also features an automatic night-time shut-off which works via a light sensor and shuts the sound off when the room is dark.
