Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

'Cucu Home' Cuckoo Clock (Natural Wood) by Progetti

'Cucu Home' is a modern cuckoo clock that seems to takes it's cute style straight from the imagination of a child.

Designed by Ilya Titov (see below), this contemporary cuckoo clock recalls the scene of a tiny country cottage depicted in a free-hand ink drawing. It has two windows, and a door with the handwritten words ‘cuckoo home’ above and the words ‘Built by Progetti’ illustrated by a little bird on the left-hand side. The hands of the clock are in the shape of an arrow and the cuckoo bird, perched at the window, pops out it's head and chirps on the hour.

Cuckoo Home, which is made of birch wood, is simple, genuine and ironic and is suitable for all settings - from a loving lounge room wall to a child's bedroom or a trendy cafe. It is an item that doesn’t follow the fads but holds its appeal through the years. Like all the Progetti cuckoo clocks, Cuckoo Home has been crafted in Italy with German clockwork. The cuckoo strike is switched off automatically during the night controlled by a light sensor so you're never woken when it's dark.

It is driven by battery quartz movement and the cuckoo strike, which chimes on the hour with the sound of a light babbling brook and sweet cuckoo call, is switched off automatically during the night by a built-in light sensor control.

All Progetti cuckoo clocks are fitted with an Engstler™ clock & cuckoo mechanism which is custom built by the Engstler cuckoo clock manufacturer in the Black Forest region, Germany. Their craftsmanship ensures your cuckoo clock works as wonderfully as the world-famous traditional cuckoo clocks of the Black Forest region.

MEET THE DESIGNER OF THE 'CUCU HOME' CUCKOO CLOCK BY PROGETTI: ILYA TITOV

Russian architect, designer and engineer. Born in 1976, Ilya Titov, now lives in the capital of the cold severe country of Russia. That's why cap with ear-flaps are his favourite during long Russian winters. While designing, Ilya concentrates on making technically well-thought out objects, juxtaposed with warm and cozy elements as well as some subtle humour. Having travelled a lot around the world and in his native country (sailing across the Pacific Ocean, hitchhiking all around NZ and living in Thailand to name a few) he tries to combine native and international aesthetics in his designs but in very delicate manners. Thanks to his wide range of education and experience – automobile designer and construction engineer, architect and graphic designer - Ilya always tries to see all tasks from different points of view which leads to well-thought and reasonable, but inspired solutions.
