Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

Do you love books, or have a beautifully adorned bookshelf? Or perhaps you just love the unique shape of this modern battery-powered cuckoo clock. The 'Bockoo' cuckoo clock will chime in the hour and stand guard over your prized possessions.

Design

Lemnos, a renowned clock-maker based in Japan, has developed this iconic cuckoo clock based on the shape and size of a book. Due to its compact size, the cuckoo clock could thus be displayed in small spaces that you had not previously considered (either as a table-set cuckoo clock or hung on the wall) or even used as a book-end to prop up your favourite series. Also, if you put the clock on a bookshelf, it may encourage you to look at the shelf and take your favourite book when the cuckoo tells the time! In such a digital world, what a great treat to find such a beautiful substitute for checking the time, instead of staring at a mobile device or computer screen. This cuckoo clock is available in three colours - 'Brown', 'White' and 'Grey'.

Cuckoo bird chime upon the hour

Each hour the little cuckoo bird peeps out from its door and sings in the hour with a 'cuckoo' call corresponding with the time. The bird is animated and moves its wings each time it calls, leaning forward and opening its mouth to let out the sound. Beneath the cuckoo birds call, is the soft sound of a babbling brook, which adds that perfect feeling of being amidst the natural world. This cuckoo clock also features an automatic night-time shut-off which works via a light sensor and shuts the sound off when the room is dark.

Worried about your order arriving on time? Nine out of ten of our orders arrive within the estimated delivery time or even earlier. However sometimes there can be factors (such as availability and delivery location) that can affect the delivery time and lengthen it by a few days or even a week or two for some more complex models. In such cases we will keep you informed of the delay and work with the the manufacturer and courier throughout the process to make it as simple as possible for you to rest assured knowing your clock is on track to you. Many of our clocks are held in stock with our suppliers but, depending on the model/brand, some are built-to-order by one of our many manufacturers in Italy, Germany, Japan or Switzerland. We appreciate your patience in such cases and we will inform you of the tracking details as soon as your order is shipped from the manufacturer or supplier.

At any time, if you have questions or concerns about the delivery time of your order (maybe because it's for a birthday, wedding or Christmas present) then let us know and we will do our best to fast-track the order with our manufacturers. Contact us here.
